Sunday Time Change and Timing Details:

In order to bring you a little closer to the action on June 10th, we have pushed the 3 Summits Challenge start time back to 8:00am!

In addition, Sunday’s ride will have an option to be timed. If you’d like to take advantage of this opportunity to see how you match up to the pros, you’ll need to sign in Sunday morning at the start and roll out promptly at 8:00am.

For those who would just like to enjoy the ride without the timed option, you can start any time between 8:05 and 8:30am. All Tour de Hood riders must be on course by 8:30am. Enjoy that extra hour of sleep!

Beautiful Lost Lake

Yep – it’s a challenge. Three Summits is a ride you will not forget. This is it, your chance to ride just like the pros! Follow the same course as the Mt. Hood Cycling Classic racers; you’ll see and experience everything the race peleton goes through first hand. As an added bonus, the Tour de Hood will also be timing your challenge ride for you, so you can see how you stack up against your fellow riders and the race!

You’ll begin with a decent from the Cooper Spur Mountain Resort all the way down to the old Dee Mill. From here you’ll begin your approach to the first of the three summits, Lost Lake. The roads will take you through beautiful apple and pear orchards until you eventually reach the Old Lake Branch Road. This is the original road that took visitors up to the Lost Lake Campground. It’s narrow and windy terrain will deliver the opportunity to put your climbing legs in gear. Once you make it to the top, you’ll stop and fuel up as you take in the breathtaking view of Lost Lake with majestic Mt. Hood as its backdrop. Next, it’s down a screaming descent that takes you to Lolo Pass where you will be ready to tackle summit two . . . Vista Ridge. Once you handle some unforgiving pitches and long climbs on more spectacular forest service roads, you’ll be rewarded with another rest stop as you cruise the Vista Ridgeline at approximately 3500 feet. Another show stopping decent will take you down Red Hill before you complete the final chapter in this challenge – the ascent back to the Cooper Spur Resort, and if your tough enough for de Hood – you’ll finish with the racers all the way up an the Cooper Spur Ski Area where a delicious, well earned burger and beverage await you.

Incredible Views on Vista Ridge

The small print: All riders are responsible for riding safely and on sound equipment, and for ensuring that they are physically and mentally ready for the challenge of this ride. Mechanical labor on the road and rest stops are provided, but any parts are additional. All riders being caught by the Mt. Hood Cycling Classic’s rolling race caravans must pull to the side of the road with all vehicle traffic and await until the final official vehicles pass before again proceeding. It is possible that riders may be overtaken by more than one race caravan. We ask that all non racers respect the progress of the race, ride single file on the course and move aside or stop when ordered to let racers outside of the caravan pass when necessary, refraining from following within 50 feet. Starts before or after the official start times may not be supported.

Any rider not passing the final rest stop by 3:15pm will be shuttled by vehicle to the finish at the Cooper Spur Mountain Resort. Breakaway Promotions, Mt. Hood Cycling Classic, their contractors and volunteers will not be responsible for riders who do not meet the deadline but refuse a ride in the shuttle.

Mt Hood is SO CLOSE on Vista Ridge!

Services, food and safety precautions beyond that point are not guaranteed. See the FAQ for additional information about how the ride and race will interact. This event runs rain or shine! No refunds after 5/27/2011. Refund rules apply.
